Review: Evita

Once again, theatregoers can enjoy the quality of the West End in Southampton as the Mayflower presents their latest production of Evita.

Giving a fresh take to this classic musical, Bill Kenwright brings new ideas, complimented by an extremely talented cast. Stand of performances come in the roles of Magaldi and Peron’s Mistress; Oscar Balmasada along with Sarah O’Connor. Kevin Stephen-Jones gives an understated but considered Peron with a beautifully pure baritone. Unfortunately, Che, Gian Marco’s amazing voice is let down by a stylised performance. However, the show is without a doubt stolen by Emma Hatton playing the leading role. Vocally she moves effortlessly between her belt and soprano top-notes. Equally impressive are her acting skills as displays Eva’s slow, fatal decent into illness.

Catch this hit show at Mayflower Theatre until Saturday January 21.
